On November 14th, 1997, 14-year-old teen Reena Virk joined a group of peers from her neighbourhood for some late-night partying under the Craigflower Bridge, in the Saanich district of Vancouver Island. Little did she know, the night of revelry was but a ruse. Under the bridge, Reena was assailed by a group of teens - mostly girls - with shocking brutally. The events that followed would engender a moral panic about the capacity for violence amongst teenage girls and would later open up a national conversation about racially motivated bullying. At just 25 years old, her rise had been meteoric.
