Haunted Appalachia

There are old gods in Appalachia. The rounded mountains, like sleeping giants, are tinged with mist and swaths of endless trees. Deep browns, startling reds, and swarthy greens. It’s the land of weather-beaten rock; it’s the land before time. Appalachia is the land of the old gods. Creeks burrow in the ground here, and jute out of hillsides. Hollows and glens play host to spirits. It’s a land ripe for storytelling.

On this episode of Hellscape, Kendra and Chloë talk about the layered land of Appalachia, and the many ways in which it is haunted. We chat about American folklore, geography, the unionization of the coal mines, Mothman, and the plague initiated by the Sackler family and the opioid crisis. Tune in!
